A few months back it was announced that DC Comics would no longer be producing combo packs - ultimately polybagged books that saw a code sat inside which gave a digital download of the issue purchased.
Because of this and the smaller print run of such issues many of the 'latter' published combo pack comics have became very much in demand. Many thought that Sandman Overture #5 would be the last combo pack print but now it would seem that Sandman Overture #6 has that honour. The print run of this combo pack edition could be low indeed so it's worth picking a couple up on the chance down the line these are rare books to find! The Pre-Order link for this book is below - Sandman Overture #6 Combo Pack

As September draws to a close and we move into what will be a remarkably busy October for Marvel Comics we are back with this weeks selections. There isn't a great deal around to choose from this week however we've highlighted a few that might be worth grabbing if the opportunity should present itself..... So as always below are this weeks 'Comic Picks of the Week' Hip Hop Family Tree #2 Hip Hop Family Tree issue #1 was a must have book to get - and issue #2 is no different. With a TV show in the works along with Hip Hop and Comics going hand in hand at the moment (see the upcoming Hip Hop Variant covers from Marvel) this book sits with a ton of potential. In this issue we see Hip Hop jump from the streets into the record business with a focus on acts like the Sugar Hill Gang and Grandmaster Flash. This is one that will be in demand long term - so it's worth getting a couple at cover now whilst you still can. The link to pre-order this is below - Hip Hop Family Tree #2 The Cavalry S.H.I.E.L.D 50th Anniversary (Action Figure Variant) It seems as if action figure variants simply sit in the 'picks of the week section' permanently these days. Another week sees another figure variant and this time round Agent Melinda May gets the treatment. When doing my regular comic book store run round this week I did notice that the figure variant featuring Fitz and Simmons wasn't stocked in massive numbers so do wonder if they have been ordered in lesser numbers in recent weeks with demand slowing down.... Regardless this is another for the set - down the line people will be looking for issues they missed and this could be one of them. Order this one below - The Cavalry Action Figure Variant Bloodthirsty - One Nation Under Water #1 Last up this week comes another Titan Comics title. Titan seem to be doing very well this year with Doctor Who's continuing success and recently Rivers of London flying off the shelves. This time round we have what already seems to be a tricky book to get in Bloodthirsty. The synopsis is as follows - Haunted by the catastrophe that tore his city apart 10 years ago, Coast Guard veteran Virgil Lafleur struggles with the hardships of a post Katrina New Orleans. But when his younger brothers murder leads him into a vortex of intrigue, corruption and violence Virgil becomes obsessed with bringing the killer to justice. This should be an interesting book if not only for the read. Pre Order this one below - Bloodthirsty #1 So that's it for another week - other comics worth keeping an eye on are -
Archie #3 Disciples #4 However by all cases not a massive week for comics.... That being said that normally means there will be a scramble for a book everyone has overlooked! Until next week - Happy Comic Book Hunting! September is flying past in a rapid fashion - and with every week that goes by more comics titles are released for us to choose from. As always we take a look at the coming weeks releases and select what we consider to be the pick of the bunch. This time round sees 3 stellar selections to try and grab. Scooby Doo Team Up #12 Undoubtably the 'Hot Comic' of the week which has caught many off guard is Scooby Doo Team Up #12. A quick search across the Internet will tell you that this one is sold out everywhere. Why? Simple - the popularity and power of Harley Quinn. This issue sees Scooby and his gang head to Gotham where they encounter Harley and Poison Ivy. One that won't have been produced in huge numbers expect this to sell out everywhere! If you see one - grab it! Whilst 'pre-order' is over on this its worth checking Forbidden Planet incase they release some more - the link for this book is below - Scooby Doo Team Up #12 Fury S.H.I.E.L.D 50th Anniversary #1 Action Figure Variant I've been reading lots of debates online this week about if the action figure variant market has become over saturated - I can understand why many may feel that it has but personally I love these - and can see them being must haves for the foreseeable future. Looking at the long term potential you have to think down the line people will be looking for particular issues - and this may be one that people want and need for their collection. I've said it before - if you have a few of these covers put them together - they look amazing lined up! Once again this isn't one to miss out on. This link for this book is below - Fury S.H.I.E.L.D 50th Anniversary #1 Action Figure Variant Public Relations #1 A bit of deja vu from the August 26th picks on this one due to the release of this being delayed. Released by Devils Due expect this one to be low in print numbers and in turn high in demand. As a #1 issue it'll be interesting to see where this one goes but the reports are that's it's a great read! Still available for pre-order grab this one below - Public Relations #1 So that's another weeks picks done and dusted.
Scooby Doo has the potential to be a monster in the secondary market no doubt so I can't stress enough grab a copy if your lucky enough to find one! Until next week - Happy Comic Book hunting! Star Wars Action Figure comic book variants have regularly been 'the must get' covers to pick up over the last year and when Vader Down #1 hits stores in November certain retailers will be offering a nice tie-in variant.
Based on the back of the action figure packaging this cover (in which retailers can place their logo on) will feature all figures that will have graced the covers thus far in a checklist format. Another great addition to a very popular variant series. This weeks picks are being typed as I sit on a train home from Leeds where I have spent 2 days on a stag do - the word 'exhausted' doesn't cover how I feel in the slightest! The fact my train is currently delayed however gives me ample opportunity to look at this weeks options..... And there is a nice range to consider - so as always - without further ado here are this weeks choices. Star Wars #9 - John Tyler Christopher Figure Variant First up this week comes what feels to be a regular pick with every issue that comes out. Let's look at the facts here on this book..... 1) It's Star Wars 2) It's a Star Wars figure variant 3) These books will remain popular (and can only get more popular) the more time goes by. 4) If you have a number of these already - stop reading this post - get them all out - line them up..... How cool do they look together? Exactly!! The 'figure' of choice this time round is Star Destroyer Commander - who looks a little like Steve Carrell! Anyway - pick this up - you might get a first appearance in the book itself - it could be a key issue - if it isn't either of these then it's still great to have in your collection - down the line completists will be hunting out copies and this could be one they are looking for! Grab your copy on the link below - Star Wars #9 Figure Variant Rivers of London #3 Issue #1 of this book was a hit - Issue #2 was hard to find - Issue #3..... Well - I expect history to repeat itself! With this book you get a cracking story - and also have a chance of it picking up in value down the line. This time round Londons most secret police force are of the trail of a self-driving killer car...... Expect this one to vanish off the shelves never to be re-stocked! Pick up your copy on the link below - Rivers of London #3 Steam Wars - First Empire Last up this week seems to be what seems set to be the 'hot book' of the week. Steam Wars - First Empire has the following synopsis..... 'Not so long ago, in a city not so far away Fred Perry created an amazing new, steampunked take on a space opera classic with Steam Wars. Now the ace art pilots of Antartic Press set out to tell their own tales within this universe. Enjoy a whole new round of Steam War stories, and you don't have to win a pod race or employ mind tricks to get it.' This book is already selling out everywhere - expect the same come Wednesday!! The pre-order link is below - Steam Wars First Empire So there you have it for this week - other notable mentions if you have the cash include -
