After the last minute selections put forward last week this week sees me get more organised and post on time. With my Back to the Future trip behind me - the stack of books that accumulated in the week I was away opened, read, and put away - it's now time for the Christmas countdown to begin. Once again this week there is a ton of choice - so - as always - without further ado here are my picks...... Niobe : She is Life #1Hands up on this one - it's actually a book I know very little about - however - it seems to be on everyone's radar - so much so that issues are already selling for £15 + on the secondary market. With this in mind if you see it then it could well be worth grabbing. The story is about a wild elf teenager Niobe Ayutami who is the would be saviour of the vast and volitile fantasy world of Asunda. Niobe's first appearance is actually in Untamed : A Sinners Prayer #1 - if you should stumble across that in your travels it's worth picking up too! Anyway - this book can be ordered below - Niobe : She is Life #1 Star Wars #11 - Action Figure VariantIts been a few weeks since we had a Star Wars Action Figure Variant - but we've got one this time round. Regular readers of this site will know I've been a fan of the action figure variants since day one - and the release this time is for Luke Skywalker : X-Wing Pilot. Always worth getting - and another for the collection you can get this one below..... Star Wars #11 - Figure Variant Howard the Duck #1 - Gwenpool VariantHoward the Duck? Gwenpool? Yup - that's right - and this book has the potential to be the pick of the week!! Much like with Spider-Gwen everyone seems to be going Gwenpool crazy. Sadly there is no presale link on this one - I haven't got any copies in order either so it's a free for all on the day. That being said - if you want a link to Gwenpool's first appearance (first appearances are always good) look no further than 'Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #2' which is still available for order (at the moment) below...... Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #2 Exmortis #1Two weeks ago we got Sunflower #1, last week gave us Self Storage #1 and this week sees Exmortis #1 hit shelves - what have all these books got in common? Simple - they all come from the hot publisher right now - 451 comics. Expect this book to be just as much in demand as the others. I was chatting to a few friends earlier this week and we all agreed that Sunflower and Self Storage are going to be must read books moving forward. Copies of #1 on both of these are sold out everywhere - if you do stumble across copies 100% pick them up! So what is Exmortis about? The synopsis reads as follows - 'When the Nazis unearth the long lost diary of the infamous Dr Victor Frankenstein they carry on his work reanimating the corpses of fallen soldiers and building an army of undead infantry to fend off the allied liberation. To fight fire with fire, the allies recruit a guerilla force of supernatural proportions, corralling a team of experts that included Jack Glendon aka Wolfman, Junior aka Frankenstein, Vlad aka Dracula, Eric Leroux aka The Phantom and Hans Volger aka The Gillman. The deadly dozen become our nations only hope and salvation against the Third Reich in an epic battle of gore and glory to stop the Red Menace and save the world from the most terrifying monster of them all - Man' Another hit comic seems to be on the cards! Grab this one below - Exmortis #1 So there we go - November is here - and the Christmas countdown starts. Other pick ups to keep an eye on this week include - Uncanny X-Men #600 Deadpool #1 Hip Hop Variant We Stand on Guard #5 So much choice - but no complaints from me!!

A very late post from me this week as I recover from the excellent 'Were Going Back' event in California that took place last week. Last weeks picks are doing fantastically well - and as always I've selected some more for this week. Self Storage #1Last week 451 comics gave us the fantastic 'Sunflower' and this week they are set for another home run with Self Storage. The synopsis sounds like another hit - 'Chris Smith has eked by in life hocking the auctioned off junk from those people who no longer pay the rent on their self storage units. He spends his days hoping from one storage facility to the next, bidding on units sight unseen, only to sell whatever's inside to antique dealers and pawn shops for as much money as he can squeeze. But Chris never found anything like what's waiting for him inside unit #83. Her name is Jessica. What if you found a zombie locked up in a self storage unit? Would you keep it?' If 451 keep producing comics like this they are set for a fantastic future!! Pick this one up here - Self Storage #1 Legends of the Geomancer #4Parts 1,2,3 of this book sold out and are now in demand on the secondary market - now part 4 is set to do the same. If you see this book pick it up - it won't be around for long!! No pre-order link for this shows how hard it may be to track down! Angela : Queen of HelLast up this week comes a Hip Hop Variant (as I seem to pick one each week) My choice this time round comes in the form of Angela : Queen of Hel. These covers are being snapped up all over and this should follow suit. Pick this up on the link below - Angela : Queen of Hel So that's it for another week..... Sorry about the briefness this week - back to normal next week!!
Its time for more comic picks of the week - and this time as I choose my selections I am London bound for my flight to Los Angeles as I head out to catch up with friends and also partake in the 'Were Going Back' celebrations. Those of you who are regular readers of my post will know I'm a massive fan of the Back to the Future Trilogy and this coming week on Wednesday 21st October marks the point that Marty and Doc travel to 2015 or 'Future Day' as it's become known. On this day I will be at Universal Studios taking part in the organised celebrations - so no trips to the comic book store for me! I'm all about the pre-order! It's set to be a fantastic week - and fittingly one of the selections this week is BTTF related. So here we go again - here are this weeks comic picks...... Back to the Future #1It will come as no surprise to you that this weeks first pick is Back to the Future related. A few months back when news that this series was to be released we posted about it and now the time has come for us to get new stories from the BTTF world. In this first issue we get to learn about how Marty and Doc first met - a question many fans of the film have pondered. With Bob Gale being involved this is set to add an extra dimension to the characters we love - and I for one can't wait to read this. There are a host of covers for this book - normally I'd link to just the one - but this time round I'm feeling inspired to post all that Forbidden Planet are offering! One to pick up for the read no doubt - and with it having an October 21st release date it's a perfect tribute to the greatest trilogy of all time! Back to the Future #1 Back to the Future #1 Sub A Cover Back to the Future #1 Blank Sketch Cover Back to the Future #1 Sub B Cover Back to the Future #1 MCM Variant Back to the Future #1 Forbidden Planet JetPack Variant Back to the Future #1 Your Store Variant If I had to choose one to get it would be the regular cover - only as it looks epic! Astonishing Ant-Man #1 Hip Hop VariantAnother week - another batch of Hip Hop covers to choose from. The pick of the bunch for me this week pays homage to the Notorious BIG 'ready to die' album cover with Ant-Man getting taking over and the tag line 'ready to shrink' These covers are proving massively popular and this will no doubt follow on the same path. Grab this one here below - Astonishing Ant-Man #1 Hip Hop Variant Sunflower #1The last of our picks this week comes from 451 media group in the form of Sunflower. There is already a ton of buzz on this book with a story line synopsis you feel could be picked up and turned into a movie at any time. 'Ten years ago CJ's husband and nine year-old daughter were murdered off a desert highway near the California/Arizona border. Since that day, CJ can only feel two things - paralysing shame for not being with her family and quiet fury that the perpetrators were never found. CJ should have been there to defend her family. And, in the decade since, she might as well have been dead. Until the day a letter arrives. There's no return address, only one word in the letter. It simply reads: Sunflower. CJ's daughter is alive - and now so is CJ. And she will stop at nothing to get her daughter back.' Sounds a fantastic comic - and it's set to be the hot book of the week! Get your copy below - Sunflower #1 So there you have it - another weeks picks.
Also on the radar this week are - Rivers of London #4 Uncanny Inhumans #1 Hip Hop Variant A great week of comics to choose from yet again! Until next time - happy comic book hunting! With 'Future Day' fast approaching and my flight to California just a few days away my excitement is at an all time high for things Back to the Future related. However to keep me distracted comes another week of comics - last week was a monster in terms of choice and this week equally provides a fantastic mix of books to choose from - both speculation wise and to read. Below are my 'Picks of the Week'..... Clandestino #1Ask any comic book fan who has consistently provided top title after top title in 2015 and 9 times out of 10 the answer will be Black Mask. Hot on the heels of Space Riders, We Can Never Go Home, Young Terrorists and Disciples comes Clandestino. The write up for this title is as follows - 'The country of Tairona became a no man's land after the military coup. Guerillas were formed across the lands and rebels unified against the dictator to resist the regime. The hopes of many lay on Clandestino who barely espcaped from the military attacks as a child and was then recruited by the rebel forces, to later lead the revolution against the dictator' Expect another hit once again for Black Mask - this book already has a buzz around it! Past comics spec wise tell you not to miss out on Black Mask #1 titles! You can pre-order this one below - Clandestino #1 Spider-Gwen #1 (Ramos Hip Hop Variant)Spider-Gwen is hot property right now - and there seems to be no end to the demand from fans for her (until perhaps Gwen-Pool takes over) Needless to say the must have book is the Hip Hop Variant this week - it would perhaps seem that my regular Action Figure picks are taking a back seat until the Hip Hop month passes. Expect this one to be snapped up quickly..... Although the print run could be large! Pre order this below - Spider-Gwen #1 The Walking Dead #147With the Walking Dead being back on tv expect people to be looking at the comic books again. As we eagerly await the appearance of Negan in the TV show - the comics continue to pick up the fall out from the ending of the last arc which saw the slaughter of several characters. These books as always are great to get not just for the story but also the spec potential as new characters pop up all the time and key things happen that may in turn take place on the show. Pre-order this one below - Walking Dead #147 So there you have it - another week of picks.
Next week I will be tweeting from America as I enjoy the 'Were Going Back' celebrations but hope to get my picks up as always! Happy Comic Book Hunting! I'm typing this up after a long weekend in the capital where I've been watching the NFL with the Miami Dolphins taking on the New York Jets. My plans were to write a bumper article however it's getting late and I'm clearly getting far too old for all day drinking sessions so it's going to be a short one. October is here - and that means a monster month for Marvel as the universe starts again! There is a ton of choice from them coming up - and no doubt these new releases will play a massive part in the weeks to come. This week it's been hard narrowing down what is a massive selection to pick from but I've chosen a few.... So here are the comic picks of the week. Space Riders #4This years hot company is without a doubt Black Mask Studios. A string of sell out titles, a constant steam of praise from fans and comic book sites alike - they can do no wrong. A book that is a must have is Space Riders and in this final issue the Space Riders have to battle enemies old and new as they unite against them. Sure to be another sell out make sure you grab this before it's too late! Space Riders #4 Paper Girls #1A new title from Image hits shelves this week in the form of Paper Girls #1. Billed as 'War of the Worlds meets Stand by Me' this story is set in the early hours of Halloween 1988 where four 12 year old delivery girls uncover the most important story of all time. This should be an interesting read and if successful has movie or tv written all over it. Paper Girls #1 Doctor Strange #1 (Hip Hop Variant)Its been hard choosing just one Marvel comic to write about this week - but I've decided to go with Doctor Strange #1. It's worth stating with all the new Marvel releases that it's impossible to say for sure what will be hot - and what will not - until the new releases hit any issue might be the one that contains a new character or has the next big thing stored away in its pages. I've gone with the hip hop cover version of Doctor Strange that gives a nod to the Dr Dre album the chronic. It's a cool looking cover and sure to be popular with fans. Well worth looking at! Doctor Strange #1 So that's it for another week. Be sure to keep an eye on the following items too - Invincible Iron Man #1 Journey to Star Wars the Force Awakens: Shattered Empire #2 Amazing Spider-Man #1 All New All Different Point One #1 All have potential to be must have books! So that's it for this week. Happy Comic Book hunting! |
