It's time for another round of comic picks of the week.... This time round its all about Marvel Comics as they release a selection of stellar titles and continued tales along with a couple of action figure variant covers. So without further ado here are my choices of comic book releases on Wednesday September 2nd 2015..... Figment 2 #1 - Action Figure Variant Based on the Walt Disney World 'Journey into Imagination' attraction comes this comic which boasts a variant cover by the fantastic John Tyler Christopher (who designed the Star Wars Action Figure and Secret Wars Action Figure covers also) It's no secret that the Action Figure covers always sell out and aren't reprinted so it's a case of grab them whilst you can with these. You can still pick this up on pre-order right now - Figment 2 #1 Action Figure Variant Daredevil #18 This book looks set to be a sell out - sales on eBay are high with copies being sold in bulk numbers - mainly due to the synopsis provided.... 'Not everyone survives this phase in Daredevils life. Find out who lives, who dies.... And who is changed forever.' We already know from TMNT, GI Joe and Batman that deaths in comics equal sell outs - and everything is pointing towards this being a big hit! Copies can be brought from the link below - Daredevil #18 Mockingbird S.H.I.E.L.D 50th Anniversary #1 (Action Figure Variant) Next up comes another Action Figure Variant from John Tyler Christopher - this time on the cover of a one-shot comic based around Mockingbird - one of S.H.I.E.L.D's best agents. When someone close to her is murdered she is forced to take matters into her own hands. As before being an action figure variant this is going to sell out and will be one to get before it's gone forever! Mockingbird S.H.I.E.L.D #1 - Action Figure Variant Deadpool vs Thanos #1 (Action Figure Variant) Last up this week comes yet another action figure variant - however this time it's not a John Tyler Christopher version - but instead comes from Axel Alonso. Initially when it was announced that this was to be a figure cover I expected the same layout as we normally see however with it being Deadpool we should have figured that would never be the case. It will be interesting to see how this one goes - so it's worth getting a copy! These can still be preordered below - Deadpool vs Thanos #1 Action Figure Variant So that's it for another week - it's very much all about Marvel this time round.
There are bound to be some other pick ups worth grabbing when Wednesday comes so keep an eye on the Twitter feed @CollectingGuy for any that become hot comics! Until next week - happy comic book hunting!

As August draws to a close comics continue to be released thick and fast - and as always we scout out the weeks 'books to have'. Last week saw several of the 'Hot Picks' discussed fly off the shelves and sell out online - and this week sees one of the years top titles hit issue number 4. So without further ado here are this weeks 'Picks of the Week' We Can Never Go Home #4 First up this week comes the fantastic fourth issue of We Can Never Go Home from Black Mask Studios. Those who have followed this series will know that - A) This book sells out very quick B) It's got a fantastic story I expect this to continue to same vein on both counts this week - and it's not one to miss out on! Public Relations #1 Next up this week comes Public Relations #1. Already looking online this book seems to be a tricky one to track down. Released by Devils Due expect this one to be low in print numbers and in turn high in demand. It's a #1 so it'll be interesting to see where this one goes - first issues are always worth picking up. Copies are available below - S.H.I.E.L.D #9 My third pick this week goes to S.H.I.E.L.D #9. Admittedly this isn't a comic that I'd normally normally pick up however this issue is a oversized 50th anniversary special which as the write up advises spans the 'past and the present'. Set to feature Dum Dum Dugan and the NEW Howling Commandos this has bags of potential! Keep an eye out for the sketch variant too as this one will be really difficult to get hold of! This regular cover can be obtained below - So there once again are my picks of the week. Other notable mentions include - Happy comic book hunting everyone! A comic that has proven remarkably hard to track down this week is Young Terrorists #1. Issues have sold out pretty much everywhere however Forbidden Planet do still have copies that can be brought at a limit of 1 per customer. Produced by Black Mask Comics who are on fire at the moment with a run of hits this book looks set to have potential both short and long term (values on the secondary market are already hitting double cover price) Don't miss out on this before it sells out here too (which it's bound to do) Grab your copy below now! After writing up last weeks post from a scorching hot Italy this week I'm back home in a much cooler (and very cloudy) England. This week in the comic book world gives us a nice range of choices - so without further ado below are my 'Picks of the Week' Hip Hop Family Tree #1 First up this week comes Hip Hop Family Tree which sees the New York Times best selling book series move into the world of comics in this new monthly series. Issue number 1 is set to highlight the DJs and MCs who formed the Hip Hop Culture in the 1970's. This should be an interesting series and with it being a #1 it's worth picking up a couple as these could grow in value in the future. Copies can be picked up at present on the link below - Archie #2 My second pick of the week comes in the form of Archie. Archie #1 was a monster hit with the regular Fiona Staples cover selling for 2/3 times the cover price on the secondary market. This second issue sees a selection of covers to choose from once again - and I've gone with the regular Staples version in my choice of pick up. Archie seems to me personally to be more in demand in the U.S. market - but none the less long term collecting wise these are great books to buy - worse case scenario you get all the latest from Riverdale to read. These are readily available to purchase on the link below - Rivers of London #2 When Issue #1 was released a few weeks back it was a monster hit with both readers and speculators alike. Copies were seeing prices as high as £20 on the secondary market as people scrambled to secure the first issue. Whilst I don't see this one being as in demand I do still see it being a major hit. As we continue with the adventures of Peter Grant this is one book that gives the mix of a great story and the potential to increase in value over the coming years. I recommended this book a few weeks back - and stand by that recommendation still! Grab your issue of this comic below - Star Wars #8 Christopher Action Figure Variant Last up in my 'Key Picks' this week will come as no surprise to regular readers of my posts - it's Star Wars Action Figure Variant time. This time round sees a Tusken Raider grace the cover. Everytime a new Star Wars comic comes out its worth picking up - for starters you might see a new character introduced - secondly these Action Figure covers will be in demand for years to come - it's a win win situation. Pre order on Forbidden Planet for this book is closed right now but keep checking back as it's not unusual for them to put more issues on - Grab these whilst you can - I will be picking up 5 of this cover! So that's it for my picks this week other notable mentions if you have the cash include - Oxymoron : Loveliest Nightmare #1 As mentioned at the start - a ton of choice this week! Happy Comic Book Hunting!! This weeks picks come from me as I sit on a sun lounger in red hot Venice, Italy. Being over here on holiday has meant I've had to pre-order my selections rather than head to the store to try and get them. This week includes a one selection that may be really hard to get hold of! So without further delay here are my 'Picks of the week' The Walking Dead #145 It's Walking Dead time already! After the shocking climax to issue #144 just a few weeks ago this book is titled 'Blood for Blood' which makes you wonder will Rick and the gang retaliate to the savage slaughtering of so many characters last time round. Walking Dead books are great to grab from both a reading and speculating perspective and as always I will grab a few copies to enjoy and hold onto. The can still be pre-ordered from Forbbiden Planet on the link below - It Will All Hurt #3 This comic book series is one that has been well worth picking up - the biggest problem I've actually had has been finding it. So far I've been able to get copies of numbers 1 & 2 - and have #3 on pre-order. If you want this one good luck getting a copy - as of time of writing there are none on eBay however Forbidden Planet have got some on pre-sale. Quite how long they will be available for is another question but if you act quick you can snag a couple. The link for these is below - Secret Wars #5 - Christopher Action Figure Variant I feel like I say this everytime a new figure variant comes out - but I love these! This time round Falcon gets the treatment. If you've been picking these up with each release this is another to add to your collection and if you have a few line them all together, they look great! Long term people will be looking for set comics to complete their collections so grab a couple of these if you can. There are still plenty of these available for pre-order (for now at least) So there you have it - my picks of the week! Other notable mentions if you are interested include -
Until next week (when I'm back in good old England) happy comic book hunting! |
