The Fun of Comic Book Collecting....

The last year or so has seen me get back into a market that I enjoyed in my youth - comic book collecting.

Quite why it started for me again is a bit of a mystery - all I know is on a loose end one lunchtime I stumbled across a comic shop - made a single purchase - and the next thing I know I was hooked again!

It's fair to say that with the influence of blockbuster films and the ever growing 'Comic Con' market the industry is booming. The shops I visit on a near daily basis are never empty and as every Wednesday comes around the new titles released on this day are snapped up by avid readers and collectors alike.

The great thing about comics is not only are they great to read but they also provide a fantastic option for those wanting to invest in an item with the hope its price may go up over time. As with most modern collecting markets the limited edition focus adds an extra incentive to those looking for something a bit more special.

A number of websites offer tips on what might be the next big thing and that certainly adds an element of fun to it (although its worth noting much like most things in life nothing is guaranteed so don't put you life savings on it)

I've been drawn into buying comics in bulk these days - and now have a large box with comics from all eras - with a second box quickly getting filled too.

So where to start in collecting comics? 

You can either pick up a superhero you like - and see what kind of back issues you can find.

If that doesn't work for you why not go for a new series of comics and run with it (New #1's come out every week) 

or ...... if you want to why not go down the investment or quick turn around path (buy a comic and sit on it till its value goes up or turn it around quickly for a fast profit if the demand is there).

Whatever you decide comic book collecting is great fun - and finally its become a cool thing to do!
