With so many books hitting the shelves every week we take a look at what we consider to be the 'Picks of the Week' whether it be for speculation, a good read or both. God Country #2 (Image Tribute Variant Cover) God Country #1 was an instant hit for Image last month - and issue #2 looks set to continue that trend. With 3 covers to choose from this time round we are going to pick the Savage Dragon tribute variant cover as our pick. It will be interesting to see how this book does but at the moment all signs point towards another win for Image. You may have seen earlier this week that we noted Damian Wayne and Jon Kent as ones to watch and we are excited to see them in their own title. This book has potential first appearances in it and despite what is likely to be a high print run this is one to pick up. The Deadpool Corner Box Variant was a good pick 2 weeks ago and this one has the potential to outshine that. It's a great looking cover. Expect this to be on plenty of want lists. There are a whole mix of comic book characters out there right now that have potential to explode and become the 'next big thing'. In a new series of articles we take a look at some of these future stars and highlight some of the key issues they feature in. This time round we have a look at one of the rising stars of the Star Wars Universe : Doctor Aphra. Doctor AphraDoctor Aphra seems to be popping up everywhere presently - and with her featuring in games and her own solo series you have to imagine a big screen debut might be just around the corner. Her first appearance in Darth Vader #3 (cover above) is now well documented. This is a book to be grabbing if you can find it cheap as there are copies to be had out there at cover. There is also a 1:25 variant (below) not to be missed if it comes in at the right price as that is much scarcer. Her own solo series is also one to keep an eye on with a vast array of #1 covers including this stunning Legends Comics / Brain Trust Ashley Witter variant. Expect Aphra to be around for some time to come - her star is only just beginning to rise!
A book that is already heating up ahead of release is Venom #4 (Jusko Corner Box Variant).
Suppliers are already starting to sell out of this - and a sold out book normally leads to even larger demand as people scramble to get copies. Forbidden Planet still have this for pre-order - so don't miss out and grab it whilst you still can. In a new series of articles we take a look at some of these future stars and highlight some of the key issues they are involved in - this time round we look at Damian Wayne. Damian wayNEThe other half of the upcoming Super Sons title - Damian Wayne is the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. Much like Jon Kent expect Damian to form part of the future of the DC Universe. Interestingly unlike Jon Kent - Damian has been around for some time first appearing (unnamed) in Batman: Son of the Demon in 1987 however the nod for the First Appearance officially seems to go to Batman #655 - so that seems to be the one to keep an eye on.
Of course this year both will come into their own title 'Super Sons' set for a February release - another worth keeping an eye on (but expect a large print run) Grab your copy of Super Sons #1 on the link below - Super Sons #1 There are a whole mix of comic book characters out there right now that have potential to explode and become the 'next big thing'. In a new series of articles we take a look at some of these future stars and highlight some of the key issues worth picking up. This time round we take a look at Jonathan Samuel Kent. Jon KentHalf of the forthcoming DC title Super Sons - Jon Kent is the firstborn son of Superman and Lois Lane - so he comes from a solid background! Jon Kent is a character who will undoubtably form part of the DC universe for years to come - so now is the time to keep an eye on some of the key issues he is in - none more so than his first appearance. His first appearance is actually as a new born in - Convergence: Superman #2 - despite having a large print run this is still a book to try and track down - even more so given it could be a key first appearance of this character.
